...but I don't get smartwatches at all. I guess getting notifications without pulling out your phone would be cool but...is it really worth $200-300 to avoid pulling out your phone every once and a while?

Is it really worth spending $200-300 for a device that will be obsolete in 2 years?

Bought this instead.

Considering how much people pay for fancy designer watches that only tell you the time and date, it's a bargain!

Thats just about everything today though.
I wouldnt buy this ever, but it has a target audience, and they will eat it up. Then it will either get swept under the rug or become the next best thing.
Personally, if Im bored enough to resort to technology, I want it known. I was at a concert last week, and I was on my phone before the opening act was halfway through their set. So were a lot of other people around me. A smart watch isnt obvious enough for my passive aggression.

True, but traditional watches hold their value over time. That definitely can't be said for a smart watch

Just you wait, families will be passing down first gen Moto360s instead of those silly Patek Philippes.

Considering they have to be charged daily I think they are less than useless. The Microsoft band looks interesting but it seems you have to be a proper fitness buff to get the most out of it.

I can tell you I would.
I listen to my music on my phone/ipod while motorcycling. its FAR easier to have it on the wrist to pause or change track, or check a text at a light then to have to dig into my jacket then have to stuff the phone back in at a light

I have a Samsung Gear 2 , and for me the battery lasts between two to four days. I changed out the cheep plastic band for a metal link one, but other than that I love it. All I need now is a Trans Am.

But it will go great with a Fedora and a comic book t-shirt!

Only reasonable application I've heard so far.

Has actual practical applications as a distributed control/interface, will be used as a toy/status symbol instead.

I bought one when it first launched. I love having all the notifications. I justified it because designer watches cost just as much if not more.

by then we'll be at bluetooth standard 400.2 which will include teleportation abilities, and the watch will no longer be compatible with anything...
my old casio will just need a new battery..

As someone who wears skinny jeans: My phone is one of the smallest flagships you could get, yet it still takes a good 15 seconds for me to get it out of my pants. I would wholeheartedly embrace a Microsoft Band.

At least yours gets in your pants... I have a Moto X and my largest jeans pockets can accommodate maybe half of it, with the other half sticking straight out and then the whole thing falls out if I take too many steps, so I carry it around in a wristlet/wallet thing because I hate purses.
And then they gave me this massive Galaxy S4 for work. Lollllll. Might as well be carrying my laptop around.

YOU CHANGED YOUR NAME
EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE.
But yeah, my tiny babby hands don't like my Lumia 925s screen. I can't imagine anything bigger. I wish they still made 3.5"-screened hardware with flagship specs. I miss my HTC Touch Pro2
